Stefan Hussong offered a brillant reading of Bach's Goldberg-Variations. As for the reading of the Goldbergs, it had the inner intensity and the vitality that mark the playing of a superior musician. No phrase was ever allowed to emerge unformed. Each variation was treated as a separate entity yet the relationship in the tempi of adjacent variations had been carefully planned. This was a reading by a musician whose awareness and refinement est him apart from and above most. That he shopuld have been attracted to teh accordion and have developed his command of the instrument to such an extraordinary level of sophistication simply boggles the mind.
